FAQ

Does a bill of sale need to be notarized?

It depends on your state and the type of property. For most personal property, notarization is optional but recommended. For vehicles, several states (e.g., Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Wyoming) require a notarized bill of sale to transfer title. Check with your state DMV.

Is this enough to transfer a car title?

The bill of sale documents the transaction, but you must also sign over the actual title (the pink slip / certificate of title) to the buyer. The buyer then takes both documents to the DMV to register and title the vehicle in their name.

Should I include 'as-is'?

Yes, if you are a private (non-dealer) seller — this protects you from claims after the sale. Section 6 includes the standard as-is language. Dealers and merchants may face additional state consumer-protection rules that override 'as-is'.
